Beer Can chicken

A lot of stores have sales with whole chickens at a great price, buy 2 and freeze one in the marinade, so it is full of flavour when you are ready to use it. Do not use salt in the marinade.

Marinate the chicken in a ziploc bag with your favourite rub, try to leave it in the marinade for at least a few hours. I always use a wet rub (which is an oil mixed with spices). Make sure the chicken is covered in the marinade and pour some in the middle so the chicken is flavoured inside and out. . An easy rub is mixing harissa spice (garlic, onion and paprika) or paste with oil.

You can buy a stand from the dollar store or just set the beer can and chicken on a baking tray if you are cooking in the oven.

Oven cook

Remove the top shelf from inside your oven

Preheat up to 350 degrees

Empty out a third of the beer can

Place chicken on the beer can, and make sure it stands evenly.

Cook for an hour and a half turning at the 45-minute mark

Let sit for 5-10 minutes after taking it out of the oven so the juices stay in the meat

BBQ cook

Heat the BBQ to 3540-375 degrees

Turn off one side of the BBQ

Place the beer can chicken on the side that is not lit (indirect heat cooking)

Cook for an hour and a half turning at the 45-minute mark

Let sit for 5-10 minutes after taking it off the BBQ so the juices stay in the meat

The great thing about this recipe is if you are a smaller household there are leftovers. The chicken is so tasty, you can make sandwiches, quesadillas, and salads and keep the carcass to make soup.
